Senior Associate Supreme Court Justice Paul Newby addresses students at Chase High School

From RC Catalyst staff reports

FOREST CITY, NC – On Monday, April 23, North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Paul Newby visited CHASE High School in support of the Court’s 200th anniversary. During his visit, Justice Newby addressed students from AP Government, Civics and World History classes, discussing principles of the judicial system and taking time to answer their questions.

Zachary Parker, World History teacher at CHASE High, helped organize the visit and says he hopes Justice Newby’s discussion will help further ingrain what students have learned in class. The AP Government exam is quickly approaching; therefore, this was a unique chance for Government students to explore real-world application of the topics on which they will soon be tested.

This visit is part of the Judicial Branch Speakers Bureau, which provides speakers and learning materials to further civics education in North Carolina. The NC Supreme Court is holding court in western North Carolina this spring, and CHASE High School is proud to be one of the schools hosting a Supreme Court Justice during their time here.
