Supreme Court Justices Paul Newby and Sam Ervin spoke with Mitch Kokai of Carolina Journal Radio about civic education and the role of the Judicial Branch in state government. During the approximately nine minute segment, the Justices shared their thoughts about the founding principles of our system of government and the importance of an educated citizenry.

"Our system depends on an educated citizenry that knows how government works and the role that the judiciary plays in it," said Justice Sam Ervin.

This interview was part of a broad civic education initiative launched by Chief Justice Mark Martin in 2016. A major component of this initiative is the Judicial Branch Speakers Bureau where judges and members of the legal community have made themselves available to speak to civic organizations and school groups.
