MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — On Tuesday, five members of North Carolina’s appellate courts were honored in McDowell County.

The ceremony held at the courthouse comes as the county celebrates its 175th anniversary.

Five dignitaries with ties to McDowell were recognized for their contributions to the community. Chief Judge Linda McGee is the only one of the group currently serving.

As the first woman from Western North Carolina to serve on the court of appeals, she is also its longest-serving female judge.

“It’s always a pleasure to come back home, and be able to say thank you to the people who made a difference," McGee said.

A special plaque was unveiled during the ceremony, which will be on display inside the courthouse.

Special proclamations were also issued to recognize each of the appellate court judges.
